Leila de Lima is a Filipina lawyer, human rights activist, politician, and law professor. She has served as Secretary of Justice, from June 30, 2010 to October 12, 2015, and Senator of the Philippines, from June 30, 2016 to June 30, 2022, among other duties.

Her father, Vicente Bagaporo de Lima, Sr., was the Commissioner of the Commission on Elections. Her mother is Norma Estrada Magistrado. She was previously married to lawyer Plaridel Samuel Jaboli Bohol II.

Leila’s paternal aunt, Julieta “Julie” Bagaporo de Lima, was the wife of Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison.
