Kate Bush is a British singer, songwriter, pianist, record producer, and dancer. She is known for her eclectic musical and literary themes. Her songs include “Wuthering Heights,” “The Man with the Child in His Eyes,” “Babooshka,” “Running Up That Hill” (from her album Hounds of Love), “Don’t Give Up,” and “King of the Mountain.” She is the first British solo female artist to have topped the UK album charts.
Kate is the daughter of Hannah, a staff nurse and dancer, and Robert Bush, a medical doctor/general practicioner. Her father was English. Her mother was Irish, from County Waterford, Ireland. She was raised in a historical farmhouse in East Wickham, Welling, London. Her brothers, John and Paddy Bush, were involved in the local folk music scene; John is also a poet and photographer, and Paddy is also an instrument maker, music critic, producer, and artist. Her nephew is violinist Raven Bush.
Kate is married to guitarist Danny McIntosh, with whom she has a son.
Kate’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Bush (the son of John Bush and Martha Watkinson). Joseph was born in Little Maplestead, Essex. John was the son of Henry Bush and Esther Jarvice. Martha was the daughter of Charles Watkinson.
Kate’s paternal grandmother was Annie May Carder (the daughter of John Carder and Mary Ellen White). John was the son of Isaac Carder and Sarah Anne Hoy. Mary Ellen was the daughter of John White and Mary Ann.
Kate’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Daly. He was a farmer.
