I had a chance to read the full interview in In Touch where Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller introduce their fraternal twin boys and I have to say that Sheen comes across as arrogant. It’s not just what he says but how he says it, and many of you pointed out that it was obnoxious for him to say that having the twins changed him when he already has two daughters with his ex-wife, Denise Richards.
These two spend a lot of time praising each other and saying what a great couple they are and it all sounds a little put on. Here are the new quotes that I found in the article that we didn’t cover earlier. The thing that bugs me is that Charlie is asked if Brooke is a good mother and he feels compelled to add that they’re a perfect match. I should feel happy for them, though, instead of picking this interview apart. Something about it just rubbed me the wrong way.
What’s Brooke like as a mom?
Charlie: She’s unbelievable. She’s so great, caring, focused, compassionate, loving and selfless and eager to be involved and to learn. Her mom instincts are all there. I knew when she was just my girlfriend how great she was with Sam and Lola. So, I’m not surprised she was amazing from day one. We are a perfect match.
Are Sam and Lola thrilled to be big sisters?
Absolutely. They came to the hospital, they’ve been to the house, and they’re affectionate and curious. They think the babies are dolls, so we have to be careful with how they hold them and handle them. We’re very hands-on and very protective, so we are guiding and teaching them how to deal with infants.
Are you getting any sleep?
Charlie: Sleep’s not bad right now. I feel bad for Brooke because she has to get up and pump. But as a new dad, it’s hard to sleep through the night. I go in and check on everybody. I worry because that’s what dads do.
Sounds like you have a strong marriage
Brooke: It’s so wonderful. We’re best friends. We hang out 24 hours a day together. There’s a connection, and it works. It’s hysterical to me that he has this reputation. He’s such a family man. Charlie will still be the brunt of all jokes when it comes to hookers, but I’m not worried. It’s out of his system.
So many celebrities have given their babies strange names. Why did you pick Bob and Max?
Charlie: I wanted to bring it back to basics. Their names aren’t even Robert or Maximillian. If my children don’t like their names, they can always change them when they get older.
Brooke: He was so into choosing the names for six months, I finally just said, “Okay, you choose the names for both babies.” He was happy about that.
[From In Touch, print edition, May 11, 2009]
Why did Brooke volunteer that information about the hookers? Maybe she feels it’s hanging over her relationship, but it’s not like the interviewer brought it up at all or even mentioned Charlie’s past. It seems kind of strange to say that, but it could be something she feels they’ll never escape. I don’t see them lasting. He has this kind of paternalistic air toward her and from what we’ve heard he has a temper. Their twins are really cute, though, and In Touch has photos of their nursery too that are worth seeing. It’s very retro-style and normal-looking with blue walls, a couple of armchairs, 2 cribs and a couch.
